I hope they can make a differense, i'm reporting as many as gold spammers, cheaters and botters as i can and i see there accounts getting whiped, but i dono if its enough, they seem to be commin back as soon as they get deleted.....

The way people make bots is by analysing the incoming and outgoing packets. Having some starforce protection system built in will not protect against that. They can easily put a pc between there test pc and the internet to catch every packet. While you can slow them down by adding encryption to packets, etc. You can never stop them. Its like that game guard thing which alot of Free 2 Play FPS games seem to use, which does absolutly nothing except to put more load on the users CPU.

The problem is that its too easy to just create a new account. There is no real way to tell if a person signing up is actualy a human or not. While something like CAPACHA would help slow them down, they could easily just keep connecting and sending the same capacha answer (It will eventualy get through if it knows 1 valid responce).

One thing they could do to hinder gold advertising ingame is to block all mail which contains a gold sellers url. That way less of the public would learn about there services.

This new company (FrontLine MMOG) is the "daughter" of Starforce, but has nothing to see with CD protection. Indeed, all (or almost) MMORPG can be downloaded.

Moreover, most the work seems to be made server-side in this solution, I guess encryption only is one part of it.

Personally, what I disliked the most are the macro-bots used by true players, not the "pro" gold-farmers (no interaction, we just block/ignore them). For example in Atlantica Online, so many players have alternate account(s) they launch while they are sleeping, or at school, just to farm items (and/or gold). They cheat to be superior to others, in particular in PvP. Fortunately, the main competition feature (Free League) reduces the extent of enchanting and intensive farming.

You can only combat that by making a player profile to work out what is very likley to be bot behaviour and ban/remove items from them.
